Vancouver has some great vegan food, and I believe that any vegan would love the scene here. We started our journey with an 8 course tasting menu at Folke. It was a good experience. It wasn’t the best tasting menu that we had on our PNW trip, but it was interesting. We feel as though the flavors started to blend together from dish to dish with detracted from some of the uniqueness. The standout dish was the dessert that was made of figs.

We then proceeded to travel to Whistler. On our way back from Whistler, we stopped at Zephyr Café at The BAG in Brackendale for breakfast. Not many options available, but it was decent.

Once we returned to the city, we had some of the best Vietnamese food of our lives. Viet family is a must visit.

We were forced to find a dessert location shortly after our meal. As a result, we made our way to Earnest Ice Cream where we were able to enjoy a fudge sundae. Not everything here is vegan, but everything is clearly labeled.

Our day ended at a vegan grocery store. This grocery store was incredible because of the variety of items they offered. We were familiar with some of the brands from back home, but they offered the bespoke flavors at this location. If you’re from a not so vegan friendly place, it is refreshing to see what this grocery store has accomplished. Here is a quick list of what we purchased here.
- Everland Taj Mahal Spinach Dal
- Candy Kittens LOVES Gummies
- C’est BonBon Vegan Bites
- Break Free Better Than Theirs Chocolate Bar
- Go! Beanz Salted Roasted Edamame Beans
- Stroop Club Dutch Apple Pie Caramel Stroopwafels
- Stroop Club Chai Caramel Stroopwafels
- Squish Candies Baby Elephants Gummies
- To Live For Coffee Cake Slice
- Vegan Power Co ‘Tofu Slut’ Cropped Tee

The following day started off with a whale watching tour with the Prince of Whales which I have to say was spectacular. Afterwards, we headed to The Hestia Veggie where we had some Vietnamese food. The food was good. However, Viet Family was superior.

This was followed by dessert at Lucky’s Doughnuts. These were cake filled doughnuts. There were only a couple of vegan options, but it wasn’t terrible.

The following day began at Waffleland Café. The restaurant design was pink and cute. The waffles were also flavorful.

After breakfast, we headed to the Lynn Canyon Suspension bridge for a hike. Subsequently, we headed to lunch at Vegan Shoku. Unfortunately, I just learned that this vegan spot will be closed as of September 29, 2026. I have to reiterate to all the vegans reading this. If you have the chance to go to a vegan restaurant while travelling, go! In this economy, you don’t know if that restaurant will exist in the future. Food presentation here was great.

We had to wash our lunch down with a fresh mango gelato from Passione Gelato.

We saved the rest of our appetite for the food highlight of our Vancouver trip. We had dinner at The Acorn. When I tell you this restaurant was incredible, I am NOT exaggerating. We ordered the vegan Chef’s menu and we were not dissapointed.

We loved it so much that we also purchased the book. I was ruminating about why a restaurant would sell their recipes for public consumption. Then I looked into the process of making some of these dishes and I understood why. No mere mortal has the ability to recreate these dishes.
The last day was akin to the final day in paradise. A lot of cycling and a few treats. Started our day out at feast & fallow. Great breakfast pastries that had just enough sugar to fuel our long cycling route.

Following a good breakfast, we headed to the VanDusen Botanical Garden which was a treat. Lunch was followed at the ChickPea restaurant. The portions here were huge and the food quality wasn’t bad.

We were feeling adventurous, so we headed to the mall for some chocolate at Purdy’s Chocolatier. They had a plant-based chocolates section with a quote that said “best vegan chocolate I’ve ever had”. I’d like to meet that person because this was some of the worst vegan chocolate I’ve ever had. My advice is to SKIP this place.

I like to try foods that I haven’t tried before. I’ve been vegan for a while now and I’ve had pudding on a couple of occasions. When I heard of a specialty shop selling vegan pudding, I thought that this was a must visit. I think my expectations were far too great. Wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t great either. Maybe I ordered the wrong flavor.

Dinner at Virtuous Pie offered some of the best vegan pizza I’ve ever had. This is a must visit.

The following day was our last morning in Canada as we started our trek down to Seattle. We stopped at one more location for breakfast just south of Vancouver.

In conclusion, Vancouver is a great place for vegans. The food is plentiful and there are many vegan options even at non vegan exclusive restaurants. I highly recommend this city. We’ll be back to visit soon!
